The Kanakadas Shikshana Samiti is a pioneer institution that bears the name of a great saint, universal philosopher, and renowned poet, Kanakadasa. This is the brainchild of our beloved President, Dr. B. F. Dandin, who was a popular professor in Statistics and Mathematics, as well as a great educationist. He sacrificed his whole life for the betterment of this institution since its inception. For his excellent educational service, the Karnataka University, Dharwad has conferred on him the honorary “Doctorate” degree in the year 2011. His yeoman services brought him many laurels, such as the Seva Ratna from HH Naganur Mutt, Belagavi. He was recently conferred with the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award by the Government of Karnataka on 11.11.2020 at Bengaluru.
With a view to providing good food and shelter to poor students in those days, he started “Kanakadas Prasad Nilaya” in Gadag in the year 1965. The lives of many poor students were shaped in this hostel. He started a high school in 1968 when several students were deprived of admission. It was since then that he established high schools in rural places like Timmapur, Tuppadakurahatti, Mulagund, Naregal, Gajendragada, Holealur, and Lakkundi to cater to the needs of rural areas.
The Samiti is established with a holistic view of imparting education to rural students, especially those from backward classes, downtrodden, and neglected sections of society. The vision of the society is very clear—that rural talent must be promoted on par with urban students to bring equality among them, strengthen national unity and solidarity, and develop in a sustainable way.
